Car Sharing is a big trend in Germany and many new startups are pushing into the market. In 2017 there were ca. 150 Car Sharing Companies in the market with over 1.7 million registered users. The market is divided between station based car sharing (very close to the rental car concept ) which has about 455,000 registered users and free-floating with about 1.26 million registered users. Free floating means here that when you have down loaded the app of a car sharing provider and registered successfully, you can rent also "off the street" when you see an available car.
